Deep cleaning a house means scrubbing, dusting, or vacuuming all surfaces of your home from top to bottom—including the nooks, crannies, and hard-to-reach areas.

A typical deep cleaning checklist looks like this:

• Wet-wipe doors, door frames, door knobs, and light switch plates
• Wet-wipe ceiling fans (if accessible), hanging light fixtures, and vents
• Vacuum, edge, and groom carpeting
• Dust and wet-wipe all furniture
• Dust items on furniture and lampshades
• Vacuum tops of drapes or valances
• Vacuum and wash hard surface floors
• Scrub and dry sinks, showers, and fixtures
• Clean the interior and exterior of toilets
• Clean mirrors, glass in picture frames, and any other glass surfaces
• Vacuuming carpets and floors
• Sweeping and mopping floors
• Emptying trash
• High and low dusting
• Cleaning door handles and light fixtures
• Dusting windows, window sills, and ledges
• Cleaning kitchen appliances on the outside (the microwave is cleaned inside as well)
• Wiping countertops and outside of the kitchen cabinets
• Cleaning and disinfecting the toilet
• Cleaning the sink, bathtubs and/or showers
